Must smell comes from radiator when I first start up the car
I have a 1998 S90 sedan. Love it. 71,000 miles. Only I get a musty smell when I first start up the car with the air conditioning on. The dealer has not been helpful. They suggested I spray Lysol into the air vents in the cabin. Any other ideas?

all cars with air conditioning will suffer from this problem sooner or later.particularly if the system is rarely used. it is caused by a build up of fungus within the fins of the evaporator. there are various off the shelf air condtioning sanitiser sprays available. these usually work very well. as nick says make sure if your car is fitted with a pollen filter that it is not blocked as this can also cause odd smells

usually you set the car to re-circulate air and spray it into the vent in the footwell with the air con on full pelt. it should give you detailed instructions on the bottle anyway :-)
