Sturdy key supplied and what appears decent chrome plating (still shiny two years on) That works out cheaper than standard bolts.Re the maitenance warning message. That can be switched off by yourself. It may take a couple of goes but is easy.http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...enance+message

You're absolutely right about the locking nuts but I think the days of stealing alloy wheels are in the past. Cant remember the last time I heard of someone having their wheels stolen. Back in the days, yes; but not now.

Thanks for the threas regarding the maintenance message. Iv reset that after many failed attempts but the 'parking brake service required' message still comes on when I start the car.

Pads have been changed. Discs are fine and caliper slider pins are smooth as silk as well. What else do I need to inspect/reset to get the 'parking brake service required' message to go.

Just after I bought my XC70 I took one look at the locking bolts and the crap design of the dodgy socket used to remove them and decided to ditch them and replace with normal wheel bolts. With wheel bolts torqued up to 140Nm + a few months of rust, which will find its way onto the threads, it can take more than 140Nm to get them off. That and the (IMO) pathetic socket that comes with the locking bolts it's a disaster waiting to happen.

You're absolutely right. I dnt know why Volvo use Mcgard. Most of the info online regarding their locking nut keys is pretty poor.
From experience Id say their service isnt bad at all but their locking nuts are pretty poor.

Has The EPB stopped operating?
has your cruise control stopped operating?

is so your EPB module is shot and you will need another. unfortunatley this can only be done by a volvo dealer due to the new part having to be programed to the vehicles Vin number for it to operate (bloody scam if you ask me!)

anyway same happened to me. bear in mind my dealer wanted £90 an hour to have a look and make sure this was the problem. i told them just to change the part and program it. no looking into needed than you.

The Parking Brake control unit was unreliable on the first two years of production on the S80 most likely that faulty , but the fault code stored will guide you .. It is nothing to do with the service overdue message . It means there is something wrong with the parking brake system and THAT needs some service work to fix it .
