Default Advice on buying high mileage V70 D5

I'm helping a friend look for a V70 @ the £3k price point.

Saw two today - one is a '53 175k D5. Car checks out fine, FSH all the way (2nd half independents) but:
There is a popping sound from oil filler cap when removed
Quite a lot of vapour from dipstick when idling
When we started it, it started them stopped straight away. Restart was fine. (Interestingly the trader "had taken it for a run earlier as he hadn't driven it yet").

I read the popping is prob vacuum leak somewhere, the vapour is prob OK but the start-stop-restart? Is that injectors?

I think the car is overpriced at £2995, I'd say £2250 if all good?

Next door was a very tidy 2.0T auto, '53 87k. Same price. I'd say it was the better car, but 27-30mpg? Might be cheaper than a D5 in the end at this age. What are the auto boxes like at this vintage?

Thoughts? Cheers...
