I have had 90k miles trouble free from my Dec 2003 V70 D5 and then a further 38k miles with some problems , cambelt cost £115 , front wishbones £200 new battery £46 , wheelbearing about £75 , elec fuel pump failed and now I think the main fuel pump is near the end of its life although the car is still just about running but this repair I can see costing £500 although I did see a second hand injection pump sell for £75 on ebay from a 60k car . Even if I do fork out the full price for the fuel pump I cant complain about the overall parts cost so far as have had far worse costs incurred with Vauxhall Omega/ Vectras / Mondeos all covering 100k plus miles , best one was probably a diesel Montego which I had from new and did about 115k miles with no major parts failing until a black cab hit it side on and wiped it out and this car really from popular folklore should have been the worst dog of the lot .

When I saw the title on this thread I thought it was going to be a continuation of the thread where a chap was looking to buy an S60 with 300k on the clock.
I did think that was silly miles, 60k miles is far from silly miles, if it was less that that at that age I might be a little worried. 60k isn't very much for any modern car really, plenty will start to get tired at 100k and the bills will start to increase from there. My V70 is on 177k, I love tinkering with it so a new and trouble free car would be wasted on me. I'll probably want to see 200k before I buy something else to tinker with.

My v70 is on 185345 miles and going strong. I also like doing the work myself if possible.
Cambelt change is the next little job plus auxiliary and all associated bits. Not an economical car but I love the power and it's automaticness is exquisite.

The S80 are more fragile and more expensive to repair compared with the smaller S60 and V70. The is the reason why they cost so little to buy.
60000 miles is about the mileage when the problems start surface.

I wonder if that 60,000 mile car is still going and what it's mileage is 7 years later.

As a S80 owner it would be useful to know if there are other things it would pay me to look out for. |
