Hi Paul
that's strange as far as I know from 2003 the MAP unit is mounted on the outlet of the intercooler, can you have a look on the intercooler and see if there is 1 fitted the and wired up, Dave |

Some D5's had the sensor in the intake manifold but i thought that was just the early cars and they had changed to intercooler mounting by the time the xc90's were released,
Can you see where it joins the car loom, if not i would maybe suspect its had an engine change at some point in its life, Also if sensor wasn't connected i would suspect it to have engine warning light on at least if not in limp mode

Err, I'm gonna be ragged for it but 2x Torx is the MAF not the MAP. My MAP is on the intercooler, secured (ha!) by a nasty old single self-tapper. This is why I wondered if your car had the intercooler without the hole for the sensor, which someone had then partly camouflaged by chopping out the wires.

As said, there are two possible MAP sensor locations. Top left of engine and i/c out pipe and the age of the car means it could be either.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm away from the vehicle until later tomorrow but I'll post an image tomorrow to show the sensor and location. With regards to the general driving it goes fine other than the lag when pulling away. I've suggested it's the MAP as I took the Volvo part number and googled it ( I understand this may not be the most accurate method) but every result stated it was the MAP. Hopefully we'll be able to confirm the sensor when I've posted the image, cheers Paul

Fair comment. Due to the similarity in words, lots of folk confuse the two. Not a ragging offence.

Hi, been busy at work so never got chance to post images. I've hopefully attached them now. Over Xmas hols car continued to display high emissions message and then srs fault. The images should hopefully be the sensor itself on this post and the general engine bay layout either the cut wire visible, thanks.

Now look at the intercooler out pipe to see if a MAP sensor is there also.
It's possible someone has previously fitted the incorrect choice of intercooler, inserted and wired a new MAP sensor there instead and taken your correct original MAP out of the loop.
