Default B230 FK conversion shopping list

As some know i have a planned B230fk into a B230E GLT project.

Haven't done anything apart from buy a GLT and a 940.

The donor engine all seems fine, starts, runs, stops. No smoking, rattling or knocking.

The standard fk motors aren't exactly powerful so does anyone have a shopping list of upgrade parts needed? Ideally (hoping this is a reasonable amount) i'm aiming for 300-350bhp.

Bigger turbo - off what? Pro/cons about ease of fitment Vs extra power
Bigger injectors - off what?
What pressure fuel system and pump to run?
What chips / engine management systems?

Do the internals need upgrading (1998 B230fk)?

Any advice appreciated
Jordi

Definitely look on Turbobricks.. These questions have been answered before, you just need to utilise the 'search' bar. 15G/16t/Garrett T3 turbo, VXR injectors, 012 3" MAF, bigger intercooler, larger throttle body, possibly a better turbo-back down pipe too, manual boost controller.. Stoni/TLAO chips, wasted spark ignition, MegaSquirt (if you want?).. Get a chippable ECU, gold ones, can't remember number off the top of my head but they come with the daughterboard too.

Go from there, ask around as well.

Tim

With your power goal in mind

Turbo, you can look at the 850 and later T5 turbos as an option. There is also the good old reliable T3 or T34 among many other turbos that can be used. You are also going to need a free flowing exhaust to match

Injectors again T5 injectors can be used. VXR injectors are also another common one used. If using the 940 wiring loom you will need to delet the injector resistors

Fuel pump the K jet pump will flow a lot of fuel and deal with the power you are looking at. If your pump has given up then lots of other pumps can be used (walbro is a good brand) Pressure wise if you have an adjustable regulator it will help dial in whatever injectors you use

Chips a few are available but going much north of 300BHP would be better with stand alone engine managment like megasquirt
960 Air flow meter should be on teh shopping list and do something with the inlet manifold. Cheapest option is adapting a 960 throttle body on. Next step is reworking a K jet manifold or you can go further with a all new manifold.

Headwork will get you the power with less work. Correct porting and bigger valves (most importantly exhaust) will help a lot

You will need to be running a M90 or another stronger box for that power. You will also need to upgrade the flywheel. The dog dish will work for around 300BHP but a flat 240mm flywheel and 850R clutch will give you more headroom

I've got a T3 turbo, complete with intercooler pipes and the external pierburg blow off valve if required. They're a good upgrade to the stock 13c turbo.

Then you can build yourself a T3/T4 hybrid too... Powa.

Lots of useful info chaps.

Have an M90 box to go with it. Just need to start getting out there and acquiring the bits.

Any particular cars i'm looking at for the turbo?

Exhaust wise i'm going full custom 3" s/s system. Possibly sooner than planned if the exisiting standard one keeps rotting away. May get a down pipe back system and have a custom down pipe made later (at the moment its just been bodged and better bodged for MOT)

Best place to get / find the flat 240mm flywheel?

Is it a bilt on fit with the 850r clutch or does the flywheel require any machining?

the flywheel just bolts on with a 850R clutch or you can have it supplied with the clutch

Only mod you need to make is spacing the clutch fork pivot forward by 6mm
