detatchable towball replacement
Is it possible to buy just the towball part of the detachable hitch system from Volvo?
I'm contemplating changing my V70 to an XC70 with level control and from what I can see my towbar (only 3 years old & genuine volvo) will bolt up to the XC70 but the height of the ball will be wrong as the v70 is lower and without level control. A complete new one will be another 3-400 whereas I'd ideally like to reuse my main part and just buy the correct height ball in the hope it will cost less this way. Anyone know? I'll give the parts boys a ring at some point to see what they say but thought I'd post on here too Thanks! |

Mine is a Westfalia towbar and I went for the version without level control (Nivomats) because my log trailer is oddly very low at the front and always caught on speed bumps with my previous V70, so I wanted something higher.
However, when my caravan's attached, it does look a tiny bit high at the front. I have to say it that if I was you, I'd just stick with what you have.

I changed from a V70 to my present XC 70 and the tow bar is different because of the 4 wheel drive system and the way the exhaust is so I had to have a new complete bar fitted. Have you spoken to Volvo re the differences ? I also don't have Nivomats or the 4c system.

Oooo, that's interesting, i thought they were the same but I guess the AWD & Exhaust set up is different so changes things - that's potentially my idea out the window then! On a different note, I though Nivomats were standard on the XC70? (4c an option but standard on later SE Lux). XCs are new to me, only every had the V's, similar i know but as I'm finding out, subtle differences |

Nivomats are just the special electrically adjustable shocks that are fitted on models with 4c. They were an option not standard. My XC is on normal set-up on an SE LUX spec.

same here.Rides well towing my Twin axle and hardly dips when van attached. What I notice is that the XC doesn't have any problem pulling away on a hill in the wet with the van attached whereas I used to get a bit of front wheel scrabble with the V70. Mine is the D5 twin turbo 215 engine which has lots of grunt.

4c are the special electrically adjustable shocks Nivomats are standard on the Xc and T5. If you look at the shock the lower part has the rubber gator. Mike

No gators on my Xc, and they are original. Surely if you have Nivomats you also have the 4c with the dash buttons, yes, No? To recap.... I have an XC. No Gators, no dash switches, no wires from shocks. Last edited by 4candles; Dec 5th, 2015 at 12:02. |

No; Nivomats shocks are completely different to 4C.
4C is electrically control suspension damping which alters the damping rates of the 4 shock absorbers to provide different stiffness Nivomats is a strut that combines damping, ride control and self levelling by means of a sort of pumping action inside the unit
