Red face XC60 HELP! Idiot has got the centre cupholder slide stuck

Oh I feel such a fool

Yesterday my Blackvue dashcam started wittering on at me "Please check the SD card" over and over and over again. I know it is an issue and the supplier says it is down to the card being full and written over time and again; but it hasn't been in that long. Anyhow, I took the card out, but to do so I had to demount the dashcam. Where to put it? It fitted easily in the central console, where the twin cup holders are. But then I was out and leaving the car in a public place, so I slid the cover closed.

Today I'd been out, and when I came back wanted to put my car away, but the remote release for my garage door is under the sliding cover, which won't open.

Maybe the dashcam has moved underneath the sliding cover, and has stuck. I can almost get the cover slid open a quarter of an inch... but no more. The sliding cover bulges up where it is clearly stuck on something below.

I cannot get into the storage area to move the obstruction. I've tried a coathanger, which has in the past got me out of several difficult situations.

I cannot press from the outside to get the obstruction to move.

At present I am annoyed with
  1. me, for putting it there
  2. Volvo, for having a sliding cover with deep grooves underneath, that is almost bound to get caught at some point in its life.

Does anyone know how I can get it released?

Try a flexible ruler to slide under the cover to where the obstruction (bulge) is. I have had 'minor' jams before, so know how you must feel.

I wish I could get it open that far! I can only get a coat hanger in by bending it . A ruler just goes down to the base of the holder not far off vertical.

Hurrah! I've done it.

You were right Nigel, but I'd thought you meant in via the opening which I'd normally use. I found a way from the other end, in reverse as it were. I managed to get a steel rule in from the back edge of the slider, and pushed the obstacle out of the way.

I can't upload photos on my mobile, hopefully I'll do that tomorrow in case it helps someone else.
