Why torque difference
I posted this question in the V70 P3 section recently but go no answer, perhaps in Diesel engine section someone will solve my curiosity.
I recently discovered that the latest D5 engine (215BHP) runs at two torque levels, depending upon transmissions (420Nm and 440Nm) man/Auto. WHY? I thought it might be the clutch could not take the extra torque, ( as in the V70 AWD R the auto box was torque reduced IIRC in 1st and 2nd) but I see that the Polestar option is available for manual cars which .... you've guessed increases the torque of the manual cars??? So now I'm back to square one - Why does Volvo de tune the manual?? Cheers Bob |

Can't think of a good reason.
Might be worth asking Volvo themselves. They tend to reply to tweets quicker than emails. |

I believe the autos are limited to 350Nm to preserve the box no matter what the engine can produce, but what do I know I drive a stick shift as our aAmerican cousins say. I do know that my manual polestared D4 has more tourque than I have ever needed and can spin wheels up in 1st & 2nd gear if you want.

My d5 is supposed to be 440Nm and I have an auto box. The 'stick shift ' version is a mere 420Nm
