Default caravan window stay lock

Hi all,

I've been trying to replace a broken window stay lock, one of the bits circled in the photo. It had a crack running down the middle so wasn't holding. I've separated the 2 tubes of the stay and got the broken lock off easy enough as it wasn't holding but I can't get the replacement on! The metal strut it fits on has 2 small ridges that I'm guessing are there to stop the lock spinning around the strut. Neither the original or the replacement has any corresponding grooves in it so I'm guessing it just pushes on but it just won't go.

Is it just a case of forcing it on with a mallet or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I didn't notice anything like this but I'll have another look next time I get a chance Fortunately it's the back window so when we went away in it recently we just left that window shut.
