Default S80 2001 Reverse Lights Dont work

hi guys need some help, Just noticed that my reverse lights don't work (no idea how long not worked), I have tried a few things don't know if these are good test or not.

1) verified bulbs work
2) found the relay for the brake lights so pulled that
tried each other relay in brake light slot and brake lights came on
3) changed fuse (4) 10amp
4) when put in reverse can hear a click in the fuse box area but cant narrow down

As said done know if these test esp with the relays are reliable, has anyone got any ideas

cheers

Check the bulb holder contact as the lesser used ones can build up corrosion over the years.
My fog lamp failed its mot last month and it turned out the spring contact just needed cleaning with a wire brush on a Dremel.
Have you voltage tested the contacts?

no not voltage tested, no idea how to do that, but checked terminals in bulb holder and they seem corrosion free

Not too sure about the Volvo's, but a common cause of reverse light bulb failure is a faulty reverse light switch. They are normally screwed into the transmission. Maybe different for a Volvo, or an autobox.

Here is a typical relay layout
http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/In...728_Relays.gif

Check that the one that clicks is the reverse relay.
Swap it for another.
The earths for the reverse lamps are separate, on the floor pan in front of each rear wheel, unlikely to be them.
Check that 12V is arriving at the bulb holder. The supply is common. If the relay is clicking it must be that either the supply is compromised somewhere between the relay and the clusters or the relay although pulling in is not making clean contact internally on the bulb supply contacts.
If you don't have a meter ( they are for buttons these days) you could rig up an tester with a bulb, wire and duct tape and test between the bulb holder contacts and a convenient ground or battery -ve post.
