Well the old one does look quite worn on the bit you can't see where it contacts the bodywork frame, yeah the rubber looked worn but I'd expect that after so many miles but obviously the wear was just enough for it to send vibrations to the bodywork. I might take a photo of the old one later.

Now it is weird because there are more vibrations in the car (but no noise!) because the new mount is (as one would expect) stiffer. It reminds me of when my brother had "performance engine mounts" fitted to his old 205 GTi but it rattled his teeth so much he went back to normal ones

Yes the mount is easy to do and even easier for me because I have an engine support beam. The most difficult bit about it is hoping that they send the correct one through the post . FYI it goes like this:

undo PAS reservoir and bracket and move out the way the PAS reservoir will get in your way whatever though.
Support engine, undo bodywork bolt 18mm bolt 18mm nut, knock out the mount bolt, remove three engine bracket bolts with long socket 15mm, line up new mount put on bracket bolts, bit of copper grease on bodywork bolt, align mount insert bolt, finger tighten nut, torque up bracket bolts to 76Nm (says VADIS, Haynes says angle-tighten but I went with VADIS), remove engine support. Flick engine over quickly on the starter to rock the engine, torque up bodywork bolt to 98Nm (again VADIS says this Haynes says something else, ignored Haynes). Put all the PAS etc. crud back, all done. This is as per B4194T2 engine B4204Tx engines are different.

Anyway must go, got my new rear caliper got to go fit it now.

Cheers,
Pete

As I said above, it was the mount and that was fixed some time ago.

Yes my keys do that as well but this noise was obviously something else - as I say, it was the mount.

Is there another way if you haven't got a support beam? I was thinking of doing mine but didn't want the engine to drop whilst changing the mount.

Any suggestions for safe support without a beam (ie where is the best place to support the engine underneath)?

Cheers
