Ok, if I was to forget the Dolby functions and steering wheel controls and make do with a single cd player (afterall, you can only play one disc at a time anyway), is a 650 unit compatible? The shape looks identical to the 850. Or am I wrong? Not sure about the rear connections from memory mind you...

I think it's compatible but surely any cost saving has to be balanced against the loss of functionality and sound quality. If it were me, I'd hold out for an 850.

Well I've managed to source a used HU-850 for £80 inc delivery from a breakers yard. I must've contacted 30 places so I guess they're pretty rare. One company offered to order me a brand new HU for £695 PLUS delivery. I'll have 2 at that price!

Fingers crossed it works! You might be able to sell yours for spares - perhaps the CD mech in yours is valuable to someone with a broken one for instance.

Yeah, fingers crossed time. If it doesn't I'll just sell it on. Been assured it's fully working upon removal. The cd mechanism is fine in mine as far as I know.

I found the antenna control box, cleaned connections and still same result. I was hoping there would just be a loose connection. So by process of elimination it's got te be the HU that's the week link, as previously pointed out by members. Will update when replacement HU is fitted
