Default My Kwik-Fit MOT Experience

Mot done for another year which is always extra satisfying for me because I do all my own work.
It failed on
1 cracked fog lamp lens - They let me put masking tape over it.

2 rear fog not working - I gave it a bash and it did, so they let me clean up the slightly corroded bulb contact.

3 headlamp pattern a mile out - My fault because I bent the bulb retaining clip a couple of weeks ago and it was allowing the bulb to tilt slightly.
They let me bend the clip back to correctness.

This was a special offer £30 mot which can be problematic because some garages then look to recoup cash through nitpicking fails and remedial work so it was really refreshing to see a common sense approach that let me quickly address the issues myself and bring it back for retest which they didn't charge me for.

I was so impressed, I let them do my overdue aircon regas, so they got their extra money by other means.

Even with a national chain, your experience comes down to the culture of your local branch so I'm very happy that my local seems like a good one.

Tbh my local Kwik-Fit are fine, though that might have something to do with the fact I teach the area managers daughter lol

I have the S40 booked in for an A/C re-gas with them next week actually.

Congrats on the pass too, always nice when you know you have 12 more months to wait before sweaty palms tape a tenner to the driveshaft time to squeak the car through. Or is that just me lol

Default Always friendly...but always something...

My local branch provided MOTs on both my previous cars...

1. SMax - 5 years of age. Passed...but feedback was that front brakes and discs need replacing - would you like us to do that for you today sir - £318. I declined.
2. SMax - 6 years of age - 8,000 miles later. Passed. No comment on the brakes. I'd not done anything with them.

3. VW Eos - 3 years of age - Passed....feedback was that front discs were badly scored and should be replaced - we can do that for you now for £278. I declined.

4. VW Eos - 4 years of age - 18,000 miles later. Passed. No comment on the presumably heavily scored discs.

Drawer your own conclusions. Never stopped me using them, as I know that their national status as a company assures their integrity as far as the MOT is concerned...just accept that they'll try something. All is fair in love, war and car mechanics!

Great service, friendly staff...

Yes, there were usual advisory anomalies.
Nearside control arm front bush play was noted. When I mentioned to the tester they were brand new genuine Volvo just 5000 miles ago and they're normally good for 100000+ miles, he said that maybe he was being a bit harsh and there's nothing to worry about.
Even my old control arms appeared then disappeared as advisories on different previous tests so it's very subjective between testers.
Nail in a rear tyre which I've grown quite attached to as I noticed it when I bought the car 3 years ago. Never been an advisory previously.
And advisories for engine cover and undershield being fitted so they can't check what's under which means I'll always get an advisory even if the car is otherwise 100%.
