Default Suspension part ID

What is the proper name for the short bar on the rear suspension that has 2 bolts one end and a silent block mount at the other, about 6" long.....I thought it was a tie-rod/bar but a search only comes up with the lower suspension arm?

Is this the part (control link)?

If it is AND you are in a climate where rust is an issue be very careful with the two bolts at the one end. Mine where shot which forced me to cut a hole in the opposite side of the sway arm to fit a new bolt and washer.

Yes, item 13 in the picture, although mine is a solid bar not a folded metal arm. It's the silent block that looks shot, not the 2 bolt end but then the whole thing would have to come off to replace. I'd prefer a whole assembly. Cheers.

PS: I'll soak if for a week in advance in WD40 or simliar!!

Looking at other available parts, the upper link arm can be had in a solid bar too (mine is a folded item). I might be enticed to change that at the same time, both sides, especially as my suspension is a bit saggy on the rear end (as I have complained many times before).

Mine is a solid bar as well. All of the "real" pics I've seen are solid too. This is probably some sort of generic pic that does not reflect what the piece looks like for our particular model.

Note - I'm pretty sure one end fastens to a camber bolt i.e. the bolt needs to be marked before you remove it and fastened back in the same orientation so as not to affect alignment. Just use a dremel to knick the graduated face of the bolt AND the piece that it fastens too on the body. This will help get a visual when you put it back together. If you are going to spray parts - spray that camber nut and bolt too!

Lastly, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE TWO BOLTS ON THE FLAT SIDE. The torque spec is very low (it is 35Nm). If you do, you will chew right threw the thread on the sway arm. The camber bolt is supposed to be tightened to 90Nm.

My '97 had pressed links while my 2001 has solid bars. It could be just the very early cars had the pressed links or they could have changed with the Ph2 cars.

With replacements make sure they are for the correct phase as although the suspension looks the same it is different between phases.

I see part 16 looks to have an offset hole to fix to bolt 15. I expect there are gradient marks on there just as on the lower suspension inner bolts. Cheers all.
