Default '70 spec versus '67 spec

Hi all

I am considering a later model (69-70) and am used to the middke 60s Amazons. I hear that they went onto a dual braking system and a cable clutch. Do any of you have experience of whether these systems will give any more trouble than the standard set ups.

Thanks,

Tom

The dual circuit brakes are a big safety advantage. I was once shafted when I lost my single circuit brakes on the M40. The dual circuits are harder to bleed though. The cable clutch is trouble free but heavier in operation - still theres no expensive slave cylinder to replace every few years. A 69 1800S is the car to have, if you can find one, bigger engine, alternator, dual circuit brakes, stronger overdrive but with all the looks of the earlier cars - IMHO of course - now wait for the disagreements!

Default 1970 volvo amazon for sale

Tom I presume you are talking about an amazon and not an 1800s. I have an amazon 1970 for sale. It requires some restoration but is in 100 % original condition with no welding or bodgery anywhere. Just rust that you can see. It will make a realy nice one if anyone is interested for little money to spend on it as there are no panels to buy, but will require some welding. It requires one patch to the floor but other than that the underside is the best I have ever seen and totaly original. The door corners need repair but hasn't spread all along the bottom. The front inner wings only has a couple of holes on the top where the wings bolt down so is an easy repair. The rear wheel arches need some repair but doesn't warrent full replacement. I have a good interior for the car in my loft along with a very good set of front wings and front panel.

Original amazons that are worth doing up are few and far between. If you are contemplating buying an amazon in the view of restoration look no further.

Ring me on 07899712076 if anyone is interested.

Dean

I owm a 68 120 with single circuit brakes and a hydralic clutch and a 69 120 with dual circuit brakes and a cable operated clutch. Both are very good and the only plus of the 69 car is the dual circuit brakes for safety and the negative more brake pipes to replace.

Thanks for these replies. In doing a bit of research on the clutch it seems that so long as it is set up properly it should give years of service. I've heard of them breaking but that was usually bad set-up.

Thanks Dean for the offer but I really want an Amazon that requires little work, rather than for restoration. However if you end up fixing up the bits you mentioned I'd be very interested.

My mistake, I didn't read the thread properly, but I think all the mechanical differences between early and late cars apply equally to both models - same girl with a different dress on.
