360 GLT jerking under acceleration
The car starts fine but when you put any load on the engine it shudders and jerks as if only half the cylinders are working. Finally it picks up as if a turbo's cut in! This happens in any gear now, although initially it was only in fourth or fifth at lowish speeds.

Ignition problem perhaps? How recently were the HT/Coil leads, Distributer cap and rota arm changed?

I'm afraid I haven't the foggiest. Certainly not recently.

Sounds like it needs a good service, give the tank a good dose of injector clean, and get some fresh plugs, HT leads and dizzy cap and rotor on.
Once that's done, and the fuelling's been tuned, then take the car for a good long run not being afraid to rev the car up to help clear out any deposits. |

Totally agreed with these guys - give it a full service including ignition 'consumables', then go for an italian tune-up (once it has warmed up, of course).

Definitely agreed with the knowledgable chaps above, they know their stuff! I had a dodgy HT lead on mine, which on a hard right hand bend to work showed itself as being a problem, had a poke about and it was practically in two.
Also if it's been low on fuel and picked up rubbish from the bottom of the tank, that can cause some juddering....... been there before! Being the GLT there is the fuel filter under the bonnet, and also one by the fuel pump, located on a tray under the car. Worth doing as a service item. If it's actually running lowish on fuel, the 360 has a saddle tank that is in two halves over the rear axle of the car, and the gauges can be a bit over optimistic sometimes, and on hard acceleration, even if it looks like there's plenty in there, it can start to suck some air, resulting in some hestitation and juddering! I try to never let fuel tanks get very low at all, for both these reasons! HTH's, Pete |
