Default Can I...

Hijack this thread please?

1/ During the summer after I'd had the car for 4 weeks, I left it in a car park having had a run from Yarmouth to Lowestoft. The car was left for a few hours (hot day) When I got back it just turned over and over, i checked a few fuses etc and overall tried it about 10 times. I then called the breakdown and sat in the car for 5 minutes, I tried one last time and the car started perfectly...cancelled breakdown and drove back to Yarmouth. This problem occured once a week for the next 5 weeks, always starting ok after about 10 minutes. Since the last time (Sept sometime) it hasn't happened again?

2/ Three times in the last week and a half I've turned the car over to start it, spins over (doesn't start) lovely but then stops dead like the battery is dead or the engines siezed (wa wa wa wa wa clunk) then turn over again wa wa wa wa wa wa either catches and is slightly lumpy so I rev the feck out of it or I spin it over again.

The car is a dream to drive and even with the niggles I love it.

Anyone got any suggestions for either problem? (although problem 1 hasn't occured for months)

Thanks

Phil

For problem 1, I'd change the fuel pump relay:

For problem 2, clean the throttle body and the idle air valve, also check for leaks at the vacuum pipe elbows:

I'm 99.9% sure that the pump relay was ok with prob 1 as you hear the 5 second buzz as the ign is turned on.

I'm interested in problem 2, Chris - would the throttle body and the idle air valve, and the vacuum pipe elbows potentially cause my symptom of the engine seeming momentarilly to lock up?

Cleaning the throttle body and idle air valve looking for vacuum leaks are always first steps in soring out poor idle conditions.

If you are suffering 'dead' electrics then this may be a good place to start:

Default Starting Issues

Here, i though that i would help out here. I know i have a 2.3T5, although a lot of the areas in teh car are the same as the other 850's. i would sujest that you have a look at my thread on starting issues, which might give you a few ideas to look at.

Regards
Stuart
