Once this new parking gizmo in the driving test then I may change my position. Far to much reliance on electronic gizmos in driving now. Any driver should be able to control their vehicle without such things.

I don't deny that from time to time I use the likes of cruise control though only when road conditions are good i.e dry / damp roads and little traffic. Keeping in mind that if anything were to happen it is the drivers responsibility.

I am all for the driverless car - however firmly believe that come the time they go on the market any driver will have to be given precise training and perhaps sit a further test before being let loose on the road.

I tried the park assist for the first time on Monday and to be honest it's to much faffing about, normally I judge if a space is right when I'm parallel to the space, old habits die hard, so I found myself having to reverse back so the car can scan the gap. By the time the car had parked I could've been in and out twice.

I understand these electronic assists are to help out in certain circumstances and for less confident drivers shall we say, but I'm happy to park myself.

I must admit after the car we bought had it already fitted I'm a big fan. What people have not pointed out is that it will fit itself into a space which is just 1m longer than the car. I know a lot of people who won't attempt that or who will and end up doing the forward backward shuffle half a dozen times as they have gone in too deep and hit the kerb with the back wheel.
