V70 T6 AWD as a daily driver?
Thinking about swaping over my v50 for the v70.
The v50 is not a bad size but would like something bigger and the 2.0td is not enough power and thats it mapped for the return of 37mpg! The T6 V70 is the awd version (not xc) and wondered what the return mpg is? It is an ex police car so cheaper tax but its almost at 200k. What is the engine like on the t6? Reliable? Also same about the gearbox? I wouldnt mind the mpg is there was power if needed but the v50 is sluggish and thats nothing wrong with it. Thanks

I believe the official combined mpg of T6 is 27mpg and if you use the full 300bhp enthusiastically it will likely fall to low 20's (not helped by auto box only). Huge amount of performance though.

Any car of any brand with that much power that has potentially been driven hard (which an ex plod certainly has) is going to have issues, and probably expensive ones.
A colleague of mine bought a 2002 Porsche 911 with 103k on it 14 months ago. A couple of weeks ago the engine started to knock - there's a broken piston ring and scored bore. The bill to fix? £4500. He's ended up having to sell the car for that price instead... Check with martinrpeachy - he knows of many autobox failures on the T6s. |

I love my daily a p2 v70r (same gearbox as 6sp auto) I get 19-21mpg just town driving.
Best car I've ever owned. Auto box is excellent mines on 147k I have the early valve body which can be a bit snatchy at times, but yours will be later than 6j so basically the ultimate version and they use this box now and for last 10 years in same format so it works well. I changed oil in mine without issue, since or before. Mpg will be similar to mine and I can get 37mpg at 70mph as gears are long on 6th Last edited by scvolvo; Jan 25th, 2015 at 10:29. |

Go for it.
I did, I love my T6. Swapped my T5, also ex plod, (it's now on Ebay for £1695) and let's be brutally honest here... This forum is FULL of car 'problems' etc and no mater what, there's ALWAYS those who want to suck air through their teeth and put a downer on things... On the subject of TAX, I picked up my T6, tried to tax her over the phone and was told I had to go to the Post Office as they needed to re-classify the paperwork because the taxation class said "POLICE" They now class the car as "PLG" and it costs £126 for 6 months, £230 ish for 12 months. These vehicles are driven properly, by professionals, maintained regardless of cost and serviced on time. Not all of them are raced around and involved in chases or crashes are they, they're usually driven up and down the motorway at 65 mph just to p*** us all off, the rascals. You get a massive list of the cars history and let's face it, unless you buy brand new, you're stepping into the unknown with ANY car |

T6
Yes, I went to see Peter, a rather nice chap, go on Eternal Optimist, treat yourself, you deserve it ;-)
Owyn.... I loved my T5, it really was a great place to be. She shifted, I like to drive quickly, not red-lining of course, that would be silly.... The T6 IS quicker but it's a different sensation of speed because it's auto. MPG... the T5 would do anything from 25 to 32 average depending on the weight of the right boot, so far the average of the T6 is 24, BUT I'm still learning to cope with the auto, gawd knows what it'll be like in Sport mode. ask me again in September, when I've done the Spa F1 trip. |
