Removing the washer reservoir
Hi all,
First post here, I bought a Volvo 440 in September and I'm getting to grips with a few bits and bobs. My current struggle is that I want to remove the washer reservoir in order to clean it, the car was sat for a while before I bought it and it's full of gunk, not nice! The Haynes book of lies reckons I need to remove the PAS reservoir (done), remove two bolts (done), and unscrew the coolant expansion tank (here's the issue). I can get to the point where I can actually lift the reservoir up as it's no longer attached to anything apart from the header tank, but I can't remove the header tank from the washer reservoir. It doesn't appear to be screwed or bolted together, it looks more as if it's all one piece and I can't see any way to separate them. I've tried pulling, sliding left and right, and every combination I can think of. Is there a trick I'm missing or do they have to come out together? Picture of the offending item in case there are different types (click for full size if needed): Any help would be much appreciated. |

The header on mine is clipped to the wash reservoir, should slide towards the engine bay. There is a bolt to the left, hiding under the lip on the wing holding both of them to the car - seen in your photo.
Give you an idea on what it looks like see my attachments

Thanks, sorry I totally missed the reply as I've been busy with other things. I did get that hidden bolt, but thanks for the tip.
My reservoir looks a little different to yours, both my washer pumps are "exposed" whereas one of yours seems to be sort of covered over? Assuming the plastic bulge is a washer motor anyway. I did try pulling the header tank towards the engine bay, away from the wing, but I'll give it another try this weekend. |
