Default Volvo Diesel Independent Near Kingston / East Sheen

I used to go to a great guy down in Basingstoke - K tech. I dont travel there anymore and would love a recommendation for somebody in the TW (twickenham/kingston area) to sort out an old V70 diesel that is blowing the blues (might be time to part but I do like the thing - these cars are easy to get attached to!).

Ive looked at the list but without success (maybe we should create a new version of it) - have been a bit despondant lately as also trying to sort a petrol golf and have had trouble in finding people who dont just bolt on new parts one by one untill the issue seems fixed (this gets expensive). Im only in my 40s but I remember watching mechannics listen to the engine using a screwdriver and being able to work out what was wrong (it isnt as silly as it sounds). I guess the engines were a lot simpler 30 years ago. I must be getting old......

Any recommendations appreciated!!!!

I live in Kingston. Carpenters Hampton Court wanted around £90/hour, which is not enough less than the local stealer (Squire Furneaux).Generally I couldn't find anything less than £80/hour by indies in the area using the sticky of garages above.

I'm trying out civc.co.uk (Camberley-just off M3 and next to retail park) in a month. A 25 mile drive for me each way, but only £48/hour + VAT.

Your best posting in the right part of the forum for your car.

By sounds of it you have a P1 V70 tdi (1996-2000) and the diesel thats in those (2.5 5 cyl tdi) is from Audi. Most volvo inde's won't be able to help, or they say they can, but really they don't know anything above the basics.

If you have fueling issues you need either....
Proper dealer
Inde that has VOL-fcr or full version of VIDA/DICE (as this can talk with the fueling timing).
Bosch service centre, as its a Bosch pump + ECU, they have the equipment to do the job.

Fuel pump belt should be every 40k, timing belt 80k with a fuel belt timing 'check' at 20k. If the belt has been replaced by someone that does not have the right equipment the car will run, but like a bag of crap, smokey, no power and sucking down the fuel.

New belt + labour + timing = £70-130 approx
