Default Strange fuelling issue

Has anyone else come across this?

Today when I fuelled my V40 I filled it till the pump stopped. Upon driving off I noticed that the top bar of the fuel display wasnt lit. But as i drove the two miles home from the petrol station, the second top bar went out as well.

Can the fuel pipe so badly designed that it suffers terrible splashback during filling-- enough to stop the pump and leave a quarter of the tank empty? or perhaps there is a calibration level problem with the sensor which records how full the tank is.

i will pay more attention next time, and let the pump stop; but then try to force more in and see what happens.

The days are long gone since the fuel gauge needle was connected directly to the tank float , It started with the S/V40 in 1997. There are calculations which go on now by a processor interfaced between the tank sender and gauge .. due to the large flat fuel tank .
Try filling it to the brim and using to near empty and see how it goes...

Try a different pump. The sensors in the pump are often flaky. It probably got triggered too early. We had one the other day that took us 10 mins to fill the tank as it kept cutting out!! When I complained about it the garage told me they were always having trouble with that particular pump.

Don't insert the fuel nozzle completely into the filler neck.
