They are lashing points for when the cars are on a transporter - If you've used them to jack up an XC90, then you've been lucky! They aren't made to support all that weight.

They are jacking points on other model Volvos of the same generation... V70 etc (the supplied Volvo emergency jack will only locate on to these lugs)....
I have never read that you shouldnt use them on the XC, I wouldnt be surprised if the chassis of the '90 and V70 etc of the same generation have quite some commonality, and they are therefore 'leftover' or un-needed on the '90, but remain fitted as they are a common part.

On our MY2009 there are two such "lugs" on each side of the car, approx mid point of the doors, and they are deffo jacking points for the factory supplied jack, its stated in the user manual with a diag, section 7 wheels and tyres, page 176.
Hope that helps And if using the front one, it will actually lift the whole car, I noticed that when I had my one and only puncture .... of course now Ive said that

Would the top of a jackstand fit into those two 'lugs'? Wondering if those 'lugs' can be used for something besides the factory jack ...

Try to download the user manual from the Volvo support pages .... mine is a MY2009 and its clearly described on page 176. MY2008 page 158 describes the jacking points ... http://esd.volvocars.com/site/owners..._tp9466web.pdf

Thanks everyone, quite a bit of correspondence on this subject with various ideas, The yellow label clearly states what they are for,"strait from the horses
mouth" VOLVO. This might save some mishaps when jacking cars in future. Thanks again everyone |

The yellow posted warning only applies to pre-facelift cars, the post face-lift cars have a different one stating the correct jacking point must be used .... just to confuse everything ... but I think we are all agreed the central one at the central door pillar is not a jacking point.

it should be obvious from the fitting on the scissor jack supplied which lug it fits to . That Centre mount with the pin could be for the S80 which the xc90 floor pan is from...
