I was selling them new, when the major shape change happened in 1997.
It's fair to say that back then, they were a revelation in that sector and nothing came close for new car build quality......and then it seems not much has changed with the car since and the world has moved on.
Probably the laziest evolution of shape changes ever after the 911 but the 911 can get away with it because it's a 911.

Hmm the word dull comes to mind the only thing that cones to mind recently with vw is the mqb platform. In my experience the dealerships i have visited are useless.

I find eveb people in vw's snobbish sometimes in honesty...

Same, currently using a 2.0 tdi bluemotion estate 13plate.
Its gimmicky. Touchscreen satnav console thing, but not very intuitive like fomocos focus or cmax radio/nav setups.

Satnav always uses motorways for fastest routes, but where time is concerned im able to find faster routes with Google maps.

The stop start function...absolutely useless, never works properly, when I try to pull away from traffic lights, it either says on the info centre "start engine manually" and im the berk sitting at traffic lights, or it launches the car 50cm then stalls it and the brakes snap on. Dangerous. Im hoping to get a software update on the next service this month to fix it. The last user was a ludite and though the car was crap because of all the technology

Appart from that, its as described. Smoothish ride though compared to my volvo 460 which is like a mattress on springs aka a tamazapam trip. And the sound system is ok, but dosent like my ipod. After 2 hours it crashes the radio/Bluetooth/nav console....180gb worth of songs probably too much for it?

My neighbour's son works for Bugatti, he couldn't afford the company car tax on a Veyron so took a previous generation R36 estate.
He took me out in it, that was not a boring car. I would have liked one but for fuel consumption it made a T5 look like the eco-option.

I am sorry guys, but I see nothing DULL in a Volkswagen Passat,
I think it is a good design in and out, sleek, and smartly put together.
The bland, dull and boring are those cars that comes from the far east which
are sadly filling up our streets, Hyundai, KIA, Nissan and the likes.

Mine too. I also think the seat materials etc are poor .I had a Tiguan and had to have the drivers seat recovered after 3 months because it wore badly. Also the door trim materials showed all the marks. They would have to improve a lot before I would buy another 1.The same can be said for an Audi A4 I owned as well .You just cannot find a more comfortable car than Volvo at the price.
