Body/Trim: are early & late model exterior door handles interchangeable

Hi

I have a 1993 Volvo 240 SE model which I have owned for just over a year, this being my first volvo I don't know that much about them, so sorry if my questions a little basic.

But, my drivers door handle has literary broken, and being a 1993 SE it is fitted with the all black handles, I have looked on various websites I could find but it looks like they are unavailable new? but the black & Chrome ones which I think were fitted to earlier models are as a remanufactured after market part, which leads to my questions

1/ Is there any difference between the earlier black & Chrome handles and the later all Black ones apart from colour.

2/ Can I fit the earlier black & chrome handle to my 1993 SE

As I getting a little tried of having to go in through the passenger side to open the drivers door from the inside

I don't know, but ...

You could try asking in the 200 Series Wants section of the forum. Or you might find someone in the 200 Series Sales section breaking a 240 SE and able to supply the handle.

Or have you tried asking a Volvo dealer for a price and availability? You might get an exact replacement and sometimes dealer prices are very good.

If I can't find a new one, then I will be looking to source a used one to fit.

Unfortunately our local dealer who sells volvo's among other makes is never very helpful with parts for older models, so I haven't tried them but Brookhouse's website look good

I find Tim Cresswell in parts very helpful re my 240SE. Items get posted to me very promptly. He even puts heavy items on their van for delivery to Thurrock for me.

If you mention the forum to Tim, a discount is more or less guaranteed.

Generally I reckon re Volvo dealers we have to compare prices but their prices can be very good value for some things.
