Rotational Knock
V70, 99, Pre-ME7, 2.5 10V Manual.
It has a rotational knock coming from the nearside front. It's present at most speeds, above 50mph it seems to disappear but I think this has more to do with the frequency of the knock getting so fast that it isn't as obvious. Seem to hear it most when just turning slightly in either direction. Still knocks when in neutral. When brakes are applied, the sound largely goes, but it is still faintly there. Had the wheel off, not much looks out of place there. Driveshaft nut looks good and tight, theres around 3-4mm of play in the driveshaft (along the length of the driveshaft - if you pull it away from the gearbox) and virtually no rotational play in it. Any ideas?

Had new tyres or the wheel balanced recently? Had something similar on my daughter's car where the balance weights were on the inside of the rim and cleared the brake caliper (just) until the brakes were applied at which time there was a very annoying knock.

Think I found it - rear brake pad is rattling around. Its also very low, so I'll replace them anyway!
