Questions on Bi-Xenons
Hello
I have Xenons, which is the first for me. I think it's Bi-Xenons and not the Active Xenons as I don't have that Xenon switch in the center console. With any new cars I purchase I always check the headlamp patterns and always they are off. I intend to check the Xenon light pattern on the XC90. I've been reading the owner's manual and searching the forum and I have a few questions. Sorry if they are daft questions .. 1. I have an adjustment allen screw on the headlamp which if I correctly read VIDA is the beam vertical adjustment. Don't have the other horizontal adjustment screw. Now, I thought the Xenons' have automatic leveling which control the beam height, then how does this vertical adjustment screw works in relationship to the automatic leveling? 2. The owner's manual (under adjusting headlamp pattern section) have these templates. Are these templates to help me adjust the beam pattern? Or they used to modify the beam pattern when driving from a RHD traffic to a LHD one? 3. Saying that, is the Xenon headlamp beam pattern adjusted the old fashion way, by markings of a white wall? Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post!

Hi Aslan, I'll leave questions 1 & 3 to somebody who has ever adjusted their headlights, which I haven't. But I can answer Q2 -Yes, they are merely templates for being able to block part of the beam to avoid dazzle when driving in a country that uses the other side of the road.

In respnse to 2 - rather than a template I think there is a setting to adjust the active lights to RHD or LHD
I think you keep the active button pressed for 5 or 10 seconds - remember seeing it in the manual somewhere last time I drove abroad. I think you also need ignition on 2, boot open, wipers on intermittent and to be sitting in nearside 3rd row seat at the time! |

For item 1, I have adjusted the height using the white allen key.
I think the leveller only compensates for load against the predetermined setting |

The horizontal adjustment screw is accessible getting out the entire headlight, on its external side. It is a white screw/wheel, and you have to turn a lot in order to move the light a little. If you do want to change this adjustment, look or mark the original position otherway you will be lost very quickly.
