Hi
I am bamboozelled here. I tried replacing the timing belt on my 340 1.7 but hit a snag. The Haynes manual say to loosen the nut and slaken the tensioner but mine doe not have a nut. The manual has a photo of the tensioner wheel with a large adjucting nut and a smaller holding nut off centre. Is it a different varriety or has mine been bodged? Jack |

There should be a nut on the top tensioner that needs to be loosend to remove the belt.

If you have a later 1.7 (can't say when the change was I'm afraid) the nut is on the other pulley, Dai(classicswede) had to show me too!

Thanks guys, the job is complete now but I had to adjust the tensioner to its fullest extent. That leads me to think that the earlier arrangement, with two tensioners, is superior. I wonder if you can revert to the earlier system. And for thoes interested, the 19mm crank pulley bolt is right hand thread.

I always leave the bottom pully on. You can feed the belt past it.
