Default lack of turbo boost?

1997 850tdi, MSA 15.7

Hi,

now I have my injection timing sorted I've started exploring the other facets of VOLFCR...
Had noticed that while the car accelerates smoothly, and seems to have plenty of power, there's no turbo "kick" at any point, just a smooth progressive power delivery. SO armed with my new toy I decided to look at some real time data. The requested boost figure varied nicely up to around 185kpa, but the actual figure stuck resolutely to 94/95 without moving.

So my question is this:
What sends the "actual" data through to the OBDii connector?
Should i feel a real kick when the turbo kicks in?
If the actual figure is reported correctly what could be causing this?
A pretty picture with check here, clean this, type indications would be good, as this is only my second diesel and the first with a turbo.. the other car in the garage is a 1965 Vauxhall Viva....

Thanks in advance for help.

Ian

a bit more info from VOLFCR on the way home..
Turbo control valve opening is steady at 90%, no movement whatsoever
MAF desired value is showing about half of the actual value.

any ideas?

Sounds like a dying maf to me. If it is giving a bad signal the car will not be getting enough fuel thus very little boost from the turbo. You csn try disconnecting the maf to see if it feels different/ better but this doesn't always work. I guess there is no fault codes stored?

Does the car drive ok , feel as powerful as it should be? I stopped caring about the live data given by vol fcr as it makes you paranoid and to me is useless, but it does look good!
