C70: Stop Start problem

Hi all,

My wife has an 03 C70 con 2.0 manual. In the morning the engine starts first time. However through the day it will fail to start on one occasion. It turns over but no catch.If she leaves in a few minutes and turns the radio and air off it starts and normal service resumes. It does it mainly on short journeys. The car had a new battery a few months ago. She also ran it to empty about 5 weeks ago, so can't decide if it's a filter, distributor cap or something else. The car doesn't miss fire, smell of fuel or anything.

It sounds like an immobiliser problem , i would change the antenna around the ignition switch first , and if it continues replace the terminals on the immobiliser unit under the steering column ..
If you are stuck next time try locking and unlocking the doors with the remote , that helps for some reason i do not know ! does it ever start , run for a second then stop ? That would confirm it .
