Antifreeze
It's getting near that time of year again for every car owner to think "do i have antifreeze in my car"
All of the articals I have read in relation to my 850R and antifreeze states that I should use volvo type C. 1/ Is volve type C still available? 2/ Is type C suitable for a 1999 V70R because my bro has one and cannot find any info regarding what type to use. Please let us know Thanks Steve |

Ipswich Mini Meet?
Ok, seeing that this is an Ipswich mini meet, ON-LINE, I use whatever the garage that I work at uses. If you know what I mean. LOL.
But nice clean, and the correct amount of anti freeze is very important. Lets hope this thread dosn't go the same way as your oil question Steve!

You might, well you will, pay a bit more but a dealer would be able to supply either type C or the latest equivalent.
I need to source some for mine, and I won't put any old stuff in. A colleague had his head corroded and I don't want to share his experience.

I think anti-freeze is one of those service items that is over looked.

So what do the different volvo antifreeze types mean? Surely they are all ethylene glycol based anyway which then means you can use most antifreeze on the market.

At this time of the morning nothing's working as it should, so I can't remember the different constituents of the various anti-freezes. However, the 850 heads are of an alloy type and as such are easily damaged by using an inappropriate anti-freeze, after which the cure is a new head. Ouch.

Antifreeze
My brother spoke to our local main dealer today about type C antifreeze, they said they didn't know if it was type C they used, but it was green in colour and its what they recomended.
I believe green antifreeze should be used for alloy engines and should be a 50/50 mix using distilled water. steve |

I've always used the Volvo coolant from ECP. Very green and really easy to spot leaks...which I now don't have after replacing my radiator
