Warning Light!
I'm a happy new owner of a 1991 940 GLE 16v Auto. I had an incident the other day has has left me confused. I filled the car with petrol and afterwards the car struggled to start. Eventually it rumbled for about 30 seconds before ticking over OK. However, since that time, the Lambda exhaust emmission warning light has remained on even though the car is now running fine. The petrol in question was Tesco low sulphur unleaded. Is this OK? I've also been told it could be a fault with the sensor in the exhaust system. Any advice would be appreciated.
I also seem to have an oil leak but I'll leave that till another day! Thanks - Dave Harper |

RE: Warning Light!
If the Lamdbasond light is on, there is theory a probem with your exhaust emissions, you can get the code from the OBD system that you have, instructions are in Haynes or in the FAQ on www.brickboard.com (hope VOC gets one too soon!).
Hope you don't mind me saying that if you are a new owner of a 16v 700/900, make sure you replace the oil, filter and the cambelt when you buy the car. The B234F is an interference engine, i.e. if the camblet goes, so does your valves, tappets, pistons... RE: Warning Light!
Thanks George. Well this morning I checked the codes and they came out 1-1-1. While I was wondering about this, I started the engine and the Lambda warning light had gone out! I presume I must have cleared the error. I'm still not sure what happened but looks like all is OK now.
I changed the oil and oil filter within days of getting the car. I'm considering changing the cambelt myself - is it something an amateur mechanic could attempt? I'm not sure how much labour (& cost) would be involved if I took it to a garage. Cheers - Dave Harper |

RE: Warning Light!
Personally I would pay someone to change my cambelt, that way you are sure (and have some comeback). You don't need a Volvo dealer, just a friendly garage that you trust (I know the last is difficult). When doing a car in the UK I let my dad changemine as he's a mechanic, he's advised me not to bother as it can be tricky and you have to get it right (and that's after I changed the gearbox, diff etc on my spit)
Good luck Stu |
