Out of interest, was the poor running weather-dependent?

exactly , the carburettor is set up for inlet air temperature of 35C so in winter it wont be anywhere near that so not running at its best efficiency , poorer atomisation .. fuel injection cars mainly didnt have the hot air intake pipe .

Well just to add my car is now finally running well. All it ever needed was a new set of leads, but I ended up putting mismatched arm and cap on it in an attempt to fix the problem before I got to the leads and created two problems for the price of one.

Re Carb I have fitted a new bit of pipe but it cant function properly as the cold start valve is seized. It more than likely seized because the hose split and therefore stoppped applying a vacummn and moving the valve in the first place.

The car is running well now in any event, but does anyone has a tip for freeing up the valve? You cant buy this part now.

Cheers

Good. Well done.

To get this straight in my mind, your opening post said new leads had been fitted? Did the garage originally fit new leads one of which was faulty? If so do you know what make those leads were?
