Can anyone tell me how to reset the service light on a 960?
Thanks in advance, Dan |

RE: Service light
What service light?
I have had a 1991 960 Turbo, 1995 940 GLE LPT, and now a 1998 3 litre V90. No service lights on those as far as I know. Regards Stuart |

RE: Service light
According to the Owners manual the service light will come on at various intervals to remind you to to take it to the dealer for recommended service. The manual says the dealer will reset it. I want to do the service myself but do not know how to reset the light to make it go out.
Thanks, Dan |

RE: Service light
Yes, I can understand that, but where is this light? I don't think I have an unaccounted for warning light.

RE: Service light
I have reset the Lambda warning light before, which I presume is how you reset all the warning lights, by pressing the black button located in the matchbox size black box (engine bay near side next to the suspension strut) you will see it has a cover with a wire attached. This wire needs to be plugged into Position no.2. Press the button to read the code, a small LED shows this. Code should read 1 2 1 (flash once pause then flash twice pause then flash once). Anything else is an error code (dont ask me mean as I do not have the Volvo error code bible..!). To reset I held the button for 10 seconds plugged the wire into position 3 and hit the button again to read the error code (each code has to be erased one by one).
Hope this helps, Im not 100% sure on exactly how to reset but it did work on my 95 MY S90, This procedure only resets the error codes that are stored in the memory of your onboard computer, so when Volvo plug there computers in they can read the computers faults. |

RE: Service light
On the 900 series the "service light" is fed by a connection from the speedometer (fifth wire on back of speedo). In (I think) the Japanese market this lamp is the EGT overheat warning and is fed from terminal B7 on the back of the instrument panel. If it is not being lit from the speedometer terminal (remove it to check if lamp goes out) then there would appear to be a fault somewhere on the printed circuit or in the wiring. Now not all 900s have the service light wired up (it is shown dotted in the Green Book).
All the best, Peter. |

RE: Service light
FYI
To reset the Service light on my 92 960 I removed a rubber groment covering a hole in the speedometer cover next to the trip reset. Then by using a small tip I pushed a pin inside the hole. Dan |
