Default 'Engine Performance Reduction'

Hi, I am having an intermittent issue with my 08 plate V50 1600 diesel. When driving I sometimes get the message 'engine performance reduction' come up on dashboard and it loses power. The only way to reset this fault is to restart the engine. Any ideas ?

There can be many many reasons why your getting your message and LIMP mode so we're going to need a few more details to be able to help you.

Couple of questions:
  • What is the current mileage of the car?
  • When was it last serviced and at what mileage?
  • Last serviced by who (Volvo Dealer, Indy Garage, self)?
  • If car has done more than 37,500 has it had the EOLYS fluid topped up?
  • If car has done more than 75,000 did it have a complete DPF change and EOLYS fluid top up?
  • If car has done more than 112,500 has it had EOLYS topped up?
  • When did you buy it and what was the mileage then?

If your not aware, these cars need the EOLYS fluid topped up every 37,500 miles and a complete DPF change and EOLYS top up every 75,000. This may have nothing to do with your problem but a lot of 2nd hand buyers do not know or realise this is the case and if the car is not Dealer serviced then this side of the servicing is often missed as a lot of indy garages are ignorant to the fact this extra servicing is required.

The vehicles stored DTC codes will help massively and point you in the right direction on the actual problem but at a complete guess just now I would suspect either blocked DPF or a duff pressure sensor for DPF.
