I am into economy driving but unfortunately I have not found how to extend the life of my tyres to 170000 yet , best I have managed is around 18000 miles but I am happy enough with that for a £23 tyre .

Heheh...
I know you won't want my opinion but here it is anyway... 1. You begrudge your car two (OK if it was 4 I would be a bit grumpy) wheel balances, which are actually very much needed, because you are putting part-worn back tyres on the front and you would have raced back to the National guy and yelled at him "Why is my steering wheel shaking now, must be something you t**ts did!" The guy did you a favour! Say "Thanks, John, much appreciated. Here's a tenner for a pint for looking after me and my old banger". 2. You're happy giving your life-protecting car measly cheapo crappo tyres, £23 each? What!!?? That is lunacy. And you're happy about that!!?? Well I guess we all need a laugh sometimes - I just got mine |

departed machine
Hello, I'm mentioning the "old and simpler" balancing machine used most recently on my tires. I don't have the machine's brand name. It was red and any labeling was long gone. This basic spin balancer had a knob the man would turn in response to a width measurement taken at the wheel bead-to-bead. He'd use a large outside caliper which would completely avoid the rubber. That balancer did a perfect job.
And my 2¢ on shopping sounds as old fashioned as Granny's mutton recipe. Deal locally and avoid chains. Patronize someone who depends on reputation if you can. Kira |

I think the best and simplest thing to have happened was to check balance on the tyres to see if they needed to be re-balanced and then highlight to the customer at this point if indeed they did, thus obtaining proper authorisation for item that costs money as opposed to just presumed authorisation and the demand of money later?
That would have been better customer service. |
