Even though I hope its the thermostat, I'll be surprised considering the part was volvo genuine and the coolant sensor was FACET, as usually its the after market parts which fail quickly and I only had both parts changed in October.

Just to add to my "oddness" the first time the light came on (this year), was after i took it to a guy who done my mot, he had the car on his ramp which shock the car from side to side (for some sort of test he runs) as he was checking something to do with the suspension.

As soon as I leave his mot centre, the light comes on....(i though something had been knocked out of place, apart from my marbles)

Oh and guess what, when the mot was done last year, guess what happened when I took the car out for its first run. yeah you guessed it, the lambda light came on with the coolant sensor code!

JINXED!

Had the same problem. 96 850R. the plug on the car side of the temp sensor was failing. fan was running and draining battery. car would only start dead cold. it IS your temp sensor or related plug. not your thermostat. i replaced my thermo with a non volvo one and it didn't change anything. dealer cut off the temp sensor plugs and put bullets on. 7 months no issues. i reiterate. change temp sensor. contact cleaner on plugs wouldn't hurt either.

Just a quick update. After driving to work on duel, fan and engine light came on, thermostat dropped. When moving the car in car park the fan turned off and thermostat immediately shot to the 3'oclock position so I think that confirms the sensor is the culprit and causes various issues.
