Default iMiv -just for apple devices??

Found this box/device under the rear of my 04 reg V70, and due to its size can't believe its just so you can play apple devices through the std stereo system.
Noticed there were video connections and therefore was wondering if DVD's can be played and what would be necessary to do this. The car has the RTI dash screen, but not the anologue TV bit.
Also by the unit there are a number of wires/connectors not of which appear to be a fit for any of the iMiv sockets - anyone know what they are?

Cheers

Bob

Thank you marmitespeader for the links, found similar info when I looked up trying to find info on "what have I found here - iMiv - never heard of it."
Have read through the links a couple of times - this sort of stuff not really my greatest stength, and I conclude its for an Ipod and the video streaming is Ipod streaming, not via the satnav drive in the back or the HU in the front.

Not sure i'd want to watch a DVD on the sat nav screen anyway, it was more a whats this, n whats it do.

I also thought someone might have one and could say yes/no can/can't watch DVD's - it appears also to be an expensive bit of kit.

Still don't know what the loose cables are/were for though.

Cheers

The din cable (round 8 pin) could be existing cd changer cable & the green plug could be its power supply.
Perhaps the cd changed has been removed & said iMiv put in its place.
DVDs can be viewed thru rti screen, but I am not aware of whether imiv can facilitate this.

Just read this on imiv installer doc:

Rear Installation (with RTI)
The rear installation (with RTI) is for cars with a pre-installed RTI (navigation system). The iMIV will be installed “in chain” with your RTI. The video signal of the iMIV will be hooked up to the RTI, which makes it possible to watch videos from the iMIV on the RTI screen. These videos can be played from an external video source connected to the iMIV (e.g. a DVD player) or an iPod itself (must support video like an iPod video). The iMIV will be installed in the trunk with the long iPod Cable running to the front (middle arm console).

Again, thks for info, read something very similar in the original setup link you gave me.
OK I can connect a DVD player to the iMiv, but now why would I bother- I might as well just carry my old laptop n play any DVD on a 15" screen rather than a 7" RTI.
If I had a ipod/iphone I could "stream" content to the RTI screen/HU , but as I don't have any apples its a bit useless to me.

I think the bottom line on this is
IMiv, can do other stuff but is mainly only suited to apple devices.

Again thks for your help

Cheers

Bob
