From recent experience, changed the gearbox mounting and ensured that front part of the prop shaft is parallel and not at an angle made a huge difference in teh vibration stakes .

I have fitted the spring which was missing from the centre bearing carrier and it didn't make any difference. The garage will be taking another look when I get chance to take it back in. The only other thing I noticed was that one of the carrier bolts would not fully tighten, damage thread I guess. I couldn't see any markings on the prop but I will make the garage aware of all the suggestions thus far. Thanks!!

Just a thought but have you had your wheels rebalanced recently?

I'm having bad vibrations (and they are NOT giving me excitations) at around 25 / 30 mph under load, ease off at 50mph

wheels are balanced okay

the vibration sounds 'dull' as opposed to metallic or rattley, so I did consider gearbox mount.

I think it's a UJ or center support bearing, but got to get under there really and even then not sure I have the confidence to remove

anyway found this epic read

You said that you had the rear UJ replaced. That is usually the one which gives the symptoms you describe for your current problem. Swapping out UJ's isn't a very common repair now days and someone with little experience of the job can easily mess it up by displacing the needles and then hammering in the cups to get the snap rings in. Result is not good! It's not difficult to drop the rear shaft off at the diff end and move the UJ in all directions and through its full range. A bad joint will be pretty obvious but might not be noticeable if you give it a twist still bolted up.

My mechanic said it was worn splines, the people on this forum suggested otherwise. My bet is its a combination of slightly worn splines and improperly balanced prop. I'll let you know the results when I get it balanced.
I don't think worn splines would be the cause of vibration. Unlike gears, splines don't move relative to one another. If the prop shaft is not balanced, the vibration would tend to get worse as engine RPM increases. You should feel the vibration get faster as engine speed increases.
