Default Oil Filter Placement 2010 V70 - Dumb Idea!

OK, Was making ribs for supper for the family last Sunday afternoon and having to bast the darned things every 20min. So, I decide it's a perfect time to change the oil on our v70. Wasn't too pleased with having to remove the protective under-carriage cover but at least I knew about that kink before I started. Made sure I was able to find the oil filter location before draining the oil and that took a visit back to volvo forums to locate. Wasn't too happy about time wasted there. That was all fine. What really burned me was having to spend about 10min trying to maneuvre the darned oil filter out and the new one back in. Is there a trick to this task that I don't know about. I moved a cylindrical container out of the way but the flex hose pretty much prevented me from getting any kind of good access to the space. Then my neighbor shows up and wants to chat. All the while I'm looking at the clock because I'm going to have to go back in for rib basting (again) and I'm still not done. Got the job done fine in the end but sure would love to hear any tips from the group on how to get that darned oil filter out then back in (without damaging the new one would be nice). Dumb location as far as I'm concerned!

???

It's easy to get to on a 2009 D5...

Yes on a 2009 2.4D on the front of the engine,RHS. There is a bit of trunking above it but this can be negotiated using a ratchet with an extension bar attatched to 36mm socket. Very straightforward but maybe yours is a different engine??
