Tyres
does anyone have any particular recommendations when it comes to tyres. Mine are getting low and although I do enjoy the tail happiness of my estate, its not something which is shared by all of the drivers in the household!

On my 1989 240GLT I have Michelin energy savers. They are fine for me and seem grippy enough, although I don't test them. Not good in the snow though.

Toyo Proxes CF1 are a good buy, decent price, and decent performance. Same for Kumho Ecsta SPT KU31. Both have slightly shorter than average lifespans, but stick and ride nicely without breaking the bank. The Toyos had the upper hand in the snow, but the Kumhos were slightly better in the dry.
Pirelli P6000s were crap, I took them off and sold them to some poor sod as I had no confidence in the wet. For random brands fitted when I've bought cars/wheels, Federal, Triangle and GT have proved themselves to be poorly constructed and dangerous to drive on. Bridgestone Potenza RE050 stuck like the proverbial, but wore out fast and required rebalancing halfway through their life (on a Nissan).

I went for Hankook Optimo 14" on mine. They have been great. Would defo buy again .
They are a summer tyre. 20+ k miles now and still quite a bit left in them. Went through the Mot last Sept with no mention . Still available here: http://www.oponeo.co.uk/

Following a recommendation on here I have used Falken tyres a few times and been impressed with them - very good for the money. I also like Michelin energy savers too

I recently replaced a tyre and found I had a choice of just two (both would have to be ordered). Either Hankook, which was described as a budget tyre, or Falken which was mid range. I went for Falken, as recommended, which was £66.30 fitted. I was a little surprised when I later compared the performance ratings shown on ebay to find that they had the same wet grip efficiency and that the cheaper Hankook tyres were slightly quieter and more fuel efficient:
Hankook: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hankook-Op...item2a27014f2c The one fitted to my car: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Falken-Sin...item2327266aa4 Just wondered if anyone knew why Falken would be the better choice? |
