Largely irrelevant for most of the parts people will want, but I don't believe the 2.0 20v engine was ever fitted to the S/V70 (Mores the pity, given that it was quicker and more economical than the 2.0 10v).

Wasn't the 2.0 20v '70 series a T5 variant?
Not many of them about. I'm happy with my 10v, no worries on either power or fuel economy, always gives me reasonable figures. Last edited by OvlovS70; Apr 9th, 2013 at 00:22. |

Please don't be offended, it wasn't a criticism of the 2.0 10v; but I have wondered exactly why Volvo picked it over it's 20v counterpart to continue in the x70 - perhaps because the 20v was too similar to the 2.4 10v (in power, not torque of course)?

Spark plug covers on the 10 valve engines (2.0 & 2.5) say "DOHC", on the 20 valve versions, they say "20 VALVE" (though it is possible that somebody may have replaced the cover during a vehicle's lifetime).
Check the engine code - the last number in the four numbers should be 2 (2 valves per cylinder = 10 valve), so the engine code on yours may read B5202S or B5202FS. If the engine code is different to that, report back here! Hope that helps.

No offence taken at-all, apologies if my reply sounded that way, was not the intended tone. Who knows what Volvo was thinking at the time, can only think it was pricing factor in the then current market.
Indeed DOHC cover suggests 10V variant. Good luck with the breaking. Last edited by OvlovS70; Apr 9th, 2013 at 14:19. |

exactly, just after sending that reply i had a brainwave to check if the engine code would be on the cam cover like on the rwd cars, hence finding that it's indeed a B5202S.
i hope it goes well! turns out a lot of the parts i wanted off it arent so usefull :| i was hoping to save myself a load of money by getting a useable set of tyres but every one of them either has a bald inner edge or a cut on the sidewall :| oh well! thanks for correcting me guys (and for the free bumps!) Richard
