Default Connecting Battery

Hi all,

I needed to remove my battery for about an hour today (2005 2.0l D), but when i reconnected it, i didn't have the key in on position 2 as it suggests in the manual. Everything appears to be working ok and just wondered why it should be done like this, and if i may have caused any damage by not doing it like this?

Many thanks as always for replies.

I would guess its got something to do the cem.You need to have the key in position 2 as part of the procedure to reset the 'service needed' message. If all is well you may have got away with it.

I reset the service needed message by using the buttons and never disconnected the battery.

I am sure I found the sequence to do so in the owners manual, or it might have been from a Google search.

Do you NEED to do this every time the battery is reconnected?

I have reconnected my battery a few times without doing this, hope it hasn't caused any problems.
