V40 Rear View Camera fitting problem.
Hi everyone,
New member here, posting for the first time. I can't find a better place to put this thread so hopefully it will be OK here. You may find this difficult to believe - I certainly did - but we recently took delivery of a new V40 D2 SE on which we specified having a Rear View Camera fitted. This is an original (Volvo) accessory and appears as an option in the Volvo brochure. It is said to be a 'dealer fitted' item and arrived with the dealer a few days after we took delivery of the car. Having taken in the car to have the camera fitted we were informed by the dealer it would be returned to us within a couple of hours. You can probably imagine our surprise when the car was returned to us 8 hours later but with no camera. We were told that fitting it had defeated all the efforts of the dealer technicians and a long conference call with their opposite numbers in the Volvo UK head office in Daventry. Apparently there is no point on the standard wiring loom on the car at which to connect the camera wiring. The dealer is now trying to wriggle out of the fitting of the camera and offering to fit the 4 point parking sensors instead - no chance!!! Surely this cannot be true?? I have more faith in Volvo's designers than to accept that they have made such an error. Has anyone else had any experience of this problem and, if so, how was it overcome. Cheers, Dave. |

I can't help you I'm afraid but having had a car with beep sensors and one with a camera my own preference would be for the beeps. Clearly you may prefer the camera but I find the beeps much more helpful.
Hopefully someone can help you further with your problem.

I personally would have been extremely annoyed at not getting an extra which I had specified and paid good money for, so I would keep returning the car to them until they either fit the camera, or replace the car (to your exact spec - as ordered!)
I don't know why dealerships think they can get away with ignoring your spec sheets, and by the same token I don't know why people accept cars that don't have everything they ordered. Stand your ground and get what you have paid for! James |

I fitted one to my old V40, it took a whole day, as i had to remove the roof lining to feed the cable to the front, to link to a new mirror with built in screen.
You can get a wireless kit ( try ebay, non volvo parts) so the cam is powered by the reversing light, rear wireless sender by the feed to the rear lights ( always on i think), the receiver sits somewhere under the dash, and links into the screen/mirror. They sold it, they should sort it out... Dave
