Default Can I service / aline a C70 soft top myself

Hello

I am looking at a 1999 C70 145000 miles for $5000 in Northern California the price is very good BUT the top starts to retract but the rear hatch does not open. I have found out from my mechanic (I have an 850) that they will not look at the tops and send customers to Volvo. I do not like playing dealer prices but I am very mechanical myself. I have already service many items on my 850 and other autos (engine transmission swap etc) and only go to the mechanic when I do not have time or a special tool is needed.

So I am asking are there any of you out there that have aligned / fixed the top themselves.

Oh the guy is selling becuase he has 8 cars and our company will only move 2 to his new location.

Thanks

Owen K

I haven't had a problem with my soft-top yet (touch wood), but I have heard that a good(cheap) place to get your mechanism sorted is a Tractor/Farm mechanic.

Those guys know everything there is to know about hydraulics, so unless you have a tear in the fabric, they can fix it... if you DO have a tear in the fabric, then an upholsterers is the place to go.

Hope that helps?

Default soft top

try to find a c70 with a working roof and study it in detail then have a look at your car

i have studied the roof mechs nothing particularly out of the ordinary justr motors and cable solenoids just have to find out which one is not working or ring dealers and ask if they have any common failing components

good luck

Well i don't know what a farm mechanic can do as the roof it's electric and has no hydraulics, the best bet is to take it to a dealer as they have the vst to set it up with.
