Your opinions please...
All the original 850 grilles suffer "chrome" loss from their plastichrome finish including the "better" ones on eBay; my attempt at Plastidip failed, and a new one from Volvo is £130 with discount.
Ideally, I wanted an OEM-look eggcrate grille complete with emblem and slash, as in the first pic, which is £93, but they cancelled my order twice, so I guess it's no longer available. I've order a plain eggcrate grille from PFV and a version of the latest S80 emblem from FRF Swansea (pics below), BUT I am undecided as to how to arrange the new set-up - should I just mount the badge in the middle of the grille, or should I mount it towards the upper right (as you view from the front) corner of the grille, in a nod towards the older Volvo models? Any views on that? Any other positive or (polite) negative opinions on the general look of this set-up will also be accepted graciously!

If it were me I'd go for the upper right corner. Reckon it would look far better than being a central focal point. Have you tried messing about with photo shop to get an idea?

Cheers Jeff. Not talented with Photoshop etc I'm afraid, but I'll obviously be able to offer it up when the bits arrive.

I don't quite understand whether you are putting that Volvo emblem in an old slash and mounting that, or you just want to attach that bare emblem on to the new grille itself?

Well I was just going to mount the emblem on it's own, but I'm starting to think it'll look daft.
I like this badge on ebay (below) which is a bit smaller, and may look better in the top corner of the grille...

My view is that they always look too empty without the diagonal slash. So in my budget-conscious way I would be obtaining a slash from somewhere (which needn't have any chrome - it could be repainted if necessary - and carefully carving a slot in the aftermarket eggcrate for it.

I thought about doing this to my V50 as I want the newer Volvo badge on the phase 1 grill. I'd be interested to see how it looks without the slash.

Just received the PFV grille and also the grille badge from FRF. My thanks to FRF for the discount and speedy delivery; I have to say that PFV's delivery was also quick.
The quality of the grille is adequate, and it fits well enough; goodbye to flaking plastichrome! The Genuine Volvo badge (current issue for the latest models) is one of the cheapest looking emblems I have ever seen. I knew it was plastic as most car makers use, but it just looks so cheap compared to those of Volvo's German equivalents - consider that it is the same badge fitted right from the most basic C30 right up the top-end S80 & XC90 models. I fitted it to the grille with adhesive foam tape, and it looked distinctive alright! I've taken the badge off for now though, as the size of it prevented the bonnet release tab from fitting through the top grille slat. I'm think about leaving the cartoon badge off and just mounting a small Sweden flag badge, or something tasteful like that, off-centre on the grille.
