Default Different D5 Flywheels

Hi everybody, just a quick tip to help out anyone changing their flywheel, i changed mine today only to find the car wouldnt start, the flywheels looked identical and fitted on no problems, but i then removed the whole bloody lot again to find that, there is a slight difference,
when checking yours over, put the big gap on the reluctor ring to the top and check where the hole for the locating dowel goes, my original dowel hole was at 9 o clock as seen on a clock face but the new one was about 7, so the timing was out essintially and it wouldnt start for love nor money. I know only some people will ever need this info but its a real pain in the ass when it happens so if it helps anyone avoid some heartache all the better haha.

Default Thanks

Well likely I will never need this info as such but even reading the post makes you think when things are in bits, look at the components carefully and dont throw away the old ones before you have the thing up and running!!

Thanks for this post..... and pleased you managed to suss it out, bet you had a smile on your face when it fired up!!

well... lol, i was borrowing a friends garage with a ramp to do it this weekend, so i ended up needing to rebuild it with the original worn flywheel again so i could get it outta his place.

Just thought id post it cause im a mechanic myself and ive fitted countless flywheels and ive even worked for Volvo for about a year, and I checked them and they seemed ok, but when u check everything very very closely then it becomes aparent but if i missed it what chance has someone with less experience got? so just thought id say and try to save someone some hassle.

(Not looking forward to doing it all again when i get the right bits) lol
