Unhappy Fuel 'gushes' when filling the tank

Hello all,

I have, what I believe is, a unique situation.

A repair shop replaced my fuel pump in my 2001 VOLVO V40. They, unfortunately, closed their doors soon after.
The problem is as follows: I tried to fill the tank recently - and when I do, the fuel simply gushes out! I can get a litre or so in - then stop - then add another litre - and gradually fill the tank in this slow and painful manner. I have asked a couple of other garages about this - and they all point to the stealer. Something I'd rather avoid - frankly.
So, that's the dilema - when I fill the tank the fuel comes gushing out. I can fill it gradually - but when it's -20 C - that's really cold! It takes a long time to fill.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Angelo

Have you checked to see if there is some kind of restriction in the fuel filler pipe (the pipe going to the tank from the filler)?

Think There's something stuck in the pipe or the anti syphon, maybe they droped a srewdriver down there, I've seen that before. Get a torch have a look, if you can't see anything run the petrol down and bang the bottom of the tank if ya can, might hear something rattle, otherwise your limited I assume thats the reason you went to the garage, so unless you want to start taking sender unit out etc etc
