'98 940 Celebration, 93k 1 previous owner
Afraid to say this looks like my last Volvo. Deeply dispirited over the death of my V70R and I think it’s time for a new brand.
So here is my 940 Celebration Estate: • Dark Olive Pearl Metallic • 2.3 LPT (135bhp) • Fred’s chips (not installed) • Manual • 93K • Charcoal Half Leather • Pholus 15” Alloys • Roof Bars • Front Fogs • Egg crate grill • Aircon (working) • Electric Windows • Alpine Head unit • Load cover • Boot Protector • Dog Guard • Volvo Mats • MOT to May 2011, Tax to July 2011 I purchased this car in March 2009 with 91k on the clock needing an estate, thinking this would be a car for life and wanting something I could work on myself with an eye to tuning, chip it, up the boost, bigger injectors etc etc. It was serviced and the cambelt changed (06/03/09 @91K) before I brought it, it now has 93k... (it’s not been used much) 1 owner before me Original advert is here: http://volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=66162 Why am I selling? In August 2009 I brought a V70R so the 940 went into storage in the in-laws garage. (Tyres pumped up, trickle charger, moved every 2 weeks etc) The V70R was written off by a cretin under a year later and I’m still arguing with the other insurer as to the value of the car. Every time I drive the 940 it reminds me of how good the R was and while it certainly has character, it’s just too old school for me. However I’ve driven it up to Suffolk a few times (160 miles each way) and it’s been very reliable. Had to jump start it after the heavy snow though. Bad bits: 1: Clutch bite point is very low, I’ve had this checked by my garage and they bleed the clutch which has made it a bit better. But I’m used to it now and it doesn't bother me. 2: Washer pump for windscreen failed, I swapped the pumps around so at least the windscreen can be cleared. I have a replacement pump ready to go in to fix the rear washer not working. 3: While doing the pump I found that the clips holding the airbox base on were all broken off. So the lid is currently held on with zip ties. I’ve been trying to source a replacement base but no joy. 4: The top strip of the windscreen surround is a bit rusty, I have a replacement top and side strips ready to go on. 5: Interior fan only blows on 5, I’ve changed the thermal fuse but that hasn’t fixed it. I have a replacement relay from an older 940 but it’s a different design to the one I have. So I can’t be sure if it’s the resistor or a loss of contact on the rotary switch. Interior is very good bar a mark on the dashboard where a pipes been rested on it Exterior is very good, there are some touched up scratches here and there, a bit of bubbling on the driver’s side mirror mount, small dent on the rear passenger side wheel arch. Bits ready to go on: • Fuel and Ignition chips – purchased from Fred on Turbobricks - +80Hp and 77lb/ft with MBC (£250 at today’s rate) • Comes with a daughter board to allow fitment to the EZK and an MBC • Short throw gearshift – See the group buy in 700/900 sales £130 • New old stock Volvo Towbar – no electrics (ebay bargain ) • Spare heater vent, was considering fitting a boost gauge in there... • Spare covers for the cubby holes in the boot. The car has a great head unit, shame about the speakers. Had a plan for fitting a couple of small subs in the cubby hole but... Bar the clutch the car drives very well, pulls strongly, stops and starts in a straight. All the old MOT’s , A4 box file holding lots of paperwork from the previous owner, Haynes manual. Photos are from last summer, I was intending to sell it then but the V70 got killed so... I’d like to see £1500 for the old girl with all the bits included. But open to offers. Car is in SE London.

hmm, no interest?
Priced too high with the issues? Or been too honest? Offers considered; I'd rather sell her to an enthusiast than p/x

Price is ok if it was perfect i 'd say
But you have described (potentially)several hundred pounds worth of faults to fix. Cluches can cost a fair bit in a garage now. |

Thanks
The first owner had the clutch replaced at 20k miles so this issue has been around for some time. On the 700/900 brickboard faq: http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-90...edalEngagement There's no leakage from the cylinders that I can see. When my local garage checked it out they couldn't see any problems with it - but then they didn't drop the gearbox to see what was going on in there. So would £1000 be more reasonable? Bargain with the chips included
